Yildiz Sethi

In this episode of Just Like Nana, host Amie (Elizabeth) Penny Sayler is joined by Yildiz Sethi, a psychotherapist, best-selling author, and founder of Emotional Mind Integration, to challenge outmoded mental health models and explore the generational subconscious mind.

Together they discuss the importance of addressing generational trauma and the potential for mental health recovery through neuroscience and epigenetics.

About Yildiz Sethi

Yildiz Sethi is a psychotherapist, author, and innovator in mind science, with over 25 years of experience helping people create deep, lasting change. She is the founder of Emotional Mind Integration, Rapid Core Healing, and PTIT Trauma Recovery, offering brief, powerful approaches to healing personal and generational trauma in just 1–4 sessions. Her work bridges neuroscience, consciousness, and spirituality, challenging outdated mental health models that focus on managing symptoms rather than resolving root causes.

Rewiring Your Generational Mind with Yildiz Sethi

I want to start our time together today with a quick check-in. We have spent a lot of time on this podcast talking about the heavy, complex stuff: ancestral trauma, uncoiling generational wounds, and parsing out family histories. But we also talk about the beautiful gifts, the deep sense of belonging that is your absolute birthright, and the resilience passed down through your lineage. Because we are wading through such deep waters, I want to make sure you are taking care of yourself. The deep, radical, soul-nourishing care that you truly crave when your system feels overwhelmed. Use professional help when you need it. Lean on the experts.

As always, let’s anchor ourselves in our shared truth: I am not a mental health professional, and I am not here to offer clinical advice. My job is to talk to brilliant people, gather the breadcrumbs, and lay them out for you so that you can track down what resonates within your own body and leave behind what doesn’t.

My guest on the latest episode of Just Like Nana is Yildiz Sethi. Yildiz is a psychotherapist, author, and mind science innovator who came all the way from Australia to blow our minds. She has spent over 25 years helping people create fast, permanent shifts by challenging outmoded mental health models. If you are tired of being told you simply have to manage your emotional struggles for the rest of your life, get ready. Yildiz is here to turn the traditional therapeutic world upside down.

The 5% Illusion: Who Is Really Running the Show?

Yildiz asked: “How much of your mind do you think is actually conscious to you?”

Historically, psychologists estimated it was around 20%. But Yildiz shared that the latest neuroscience studies in 2026 show a much more startling reality: only 5% of our mind is conscious awareness. The other 95% is operating completely below the surface in our subconscious.

Think about that for a second. We walk around believing we are completely in charge of our choices, our reactions, and our lives. In reality, a massive, hidden engine is running the show. What Yildiz discovered through her decades of practice is that this 95% subconscious territory isn’t just filled with your own repressed childhood memories. It is actually split into two distinct spaces: your personal subconscious mind and your generational (systemic) subconscious mind.

The Time Warp of Traditional Talk Therapy

Because traditional talk therapy operates almost entirely in that tiny 5% of conscious awareness, it might take a long time to see results. Yildiz argues that this is completely unacceptable in modern mental health.

Through her methodologies, Emotional Mind Integration (EMI) and Rapid Core Healing, Yildiz targets the root cause directly in the subconscious. Instead of years of talking, she looks for resolution in just one to four sessions.
