Amy Vincze, EFT Tapping coach and creator of the Soar with Tapping app, explains the benefits of an EFT Tapping practice and how it can help heal ancestral trauma.

Amy also emphasizes the importance of engaging with uncomfortable emotions, versus forcing a focus on the positive.

Bypassing the Guard Dog: EFT Tapping

My conversation on the latest episode of Just Like Nana is with Amy Vincze. Amy has been a dedicated powerhouse in the health and wellness industry for over 20 years, and she has spent the last 16 years as a certified Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) tapping coach. She is also the founder of the mobile app Soar with Tapping, which she built because she realized that this simple, self-guided tool holds an unparalleled capacity to transform deep-seated fears and trauma.

The Wound vs. The Band-Aid

When Amy first started exploring tapping seventeen years ago, she noticed that her results sometimes fell flat. She would tap on a surface symptom—like chronic procrastination, a creative block, or overeating—and nothing would shift. But then she had a breakthrough: the symptom is a road sign pointing directly to a deeper root cause.

If you only tap on the surface symptom, you are simply putting a temporary band-aid over a gushing wound. There are absolutely days where you need that band-aid just to survive your workday and function like a normal human being. But true, permanent transformation requires you to eventually take the band-aid off, thoroughly disinfect the area, and put structural stitches in. You have to bypass the daily symptom and target the core originating belief systems running underneath the surface.

The 3-in-1 Science of the Somatic Override

For the brain geeks and skeptics listening, EFT tapping isn’t just wishful thinking—it is an incredibly precise combination of three distinct healing modalities operating simultaneously:

  1. Energy Psychology: Just like ancient acupuncture, tapping stimulates specific energy meridians across your body. But instead of using needles, we utilize the gentle, rhythmic percussion of our own fingertips.
  2. Cognitive Therapy: While physically stimulating these energy meridians, you actively vocalize the exact nature of your distress. Instead of repeating hollow, fake positive affirmations, you tell the absolute truth to your skin. You say, “I feel completely heartbroken, I feel betrayed, I feel intensely anxious,” which helps process and release the density of your emotions.
  3. Somatic Therapy: The physical percussion forces your mind out of its past and future loops. Your brain loves to time-travel—either racing backward into the regrets of the past or catastrophizing about the safety of the future. Tapping siphons your awareness straight down into the present moment where, most of the time, you are likely safe.

On a biological level, your subconscious mind is a guard dog that is constantly scanning for survival threats. The moment it senses danger, it triggers the amygdala—the stress center of the brain—and floods your system with fight, flight, freeze, or fawn hormones like cortisol.

By tapping rhythmically on your acupressure points, you send a physical counter-signal directly to your amygdala, telling it to stand down. This somatic override pulls cortisol back out of your bloodstream 43% faster than if you had done nothing at all, rapidly lowering your heart rate and boosting your immune response. Amy explains that over 300 studies back up this efficiency.

Opening the Ancestral Portal

Amy shared that she was doing deep internal work around what it means to show up as a woman in the modern world. She hit an intense, visceral block regarding financial success and abundance. Suddenly, she had an intuitive hit—a vivid mental image of her stern, stoic Scandinavian ancestors staring down at her. The energetic message trapped in her lineage was loud and clear: “If you go out and make too much money, you will upset the balance, you won’t be attractive to a husband, and you will compromise your safety and the safety of your children”.

This wasn’t a personal fear she had generated in her own lifetime; it was an ancestral wound.

Amy didn’t try to analyze it away intellectually. Instead, she began tapping directly on the uncomfortable, rigid beliefs of those Scandinavian women. And as she tapped, she felt an incredible release. She opened an energetic portal that didn’t just liberate her and her young daughter—she felt the heavy, centuries-old burden literally lift off the souls of her ancestors as well. Tapping allows us to rewrite the code of the dead.

Giving Your Uncomfortable Emotions Their Day in Court

The biggest mistake people make with energy psychology is assuming they have to feel “shiny and happy” for a tool to work. Amy notes that this is completely backward. To heal a pattern, you have to have the courage to lean directly into the taboo, uncomfortable emotions.

Historically, women who showed too much raw emotion or anger were locked away or labeled hysterical; men were conditioned that the only acceptable emotion was anger, stunting everyone’s emotional development for generations. We are terrified to look at our darkest feelings.

But when you sit with a certified coach or use a targeted script, you stay with the discomfort. You give your anger, your betrayal, or your grief its literal day in court. Amazingly, it only takes about 90 seconds of sitting completely with an intense emotion while tapping before the distress number naturally begins to drop. Once that charge drops from a ten down to a three, that is when your brain is finally spacious enough to believe a positive pivot.

The Roller Coaster of a Sovereign Life

Healing your lineage doesn’t mean your life enters an impossible, flat line of constant, uninterrupted sunshine—that simply isn’t human. Life is a wild, unpredictable roller coaster that goes up and down. But tapping builds your capacity so that you can ride the dips and surmount the peaks with complete grace, knowing that you possess the skills to calm your inner child when your guard dog gets triggered.

When you drop out of your analytical mind and listen to your bones, what is one surface-level symptom you’ve been masking with a band-aid that is actually an ancestral distress signal ready for its day in court?
